John Joseph Walsh, age 91, passed away on May 9, 2025. He was born in Brooklyn, NY on August 31, 1933 to Maryann and Thomas Walsh. John had older siblings, Thomas and Marie. His younger sister was Cathleen. John, known as Jack, enlisted into the Navy during the Korean War. He served on the Fast Attack Aircraft Carrier USS Lake Champlain (CV-839) and the USS Hornet (CV-812). After an honorable discharge as Petty Officer First Class, Jack was hired by IBM as a Customer Engineer. While working at the New York Life Office, Jack met Carmela (Candy) Pezzullo, who would become his wife. Jack and Candy settled in Valhalla, NY. Jack was an avid golfer, bowler and a longtime member of the Valhalla American Legion Post 1038. In 2017, Jack was the Grand Marshall of the Valhalla Memorial Parade. Jack loved gardening, walking, reading and listening to music. Jack retired from IBM as a Systems Engineer, only to begin a new career at American Health, helping with their electronics and computer systems. Jack is survived by his daughters Karen (Keith) Henderson and Michele (Craig) Purpura, his granddaughters Jenna Henderson (Erica), Brianna Purpura (Christopher Arnold), Jaclyn (Max) Benton and Shauna Purpura. He has four adorable great-grandchildren - Rhys and Isla Benton and twins Morgan Rose and Johnathan Arnold.
