James Kavakis Obituary

James “Jimmy” Kavakis of Nanuet passed away peacefully with his cousins and dearest friends by his side on November 29th, 2022. He was born in Washington Heights, New York, and moved to Nanuet in 1963. Jimmy spent the majority of his life in Nanuet and had a tremendous amount of dear friends from childhood. Jimmy is predeceased by his father Connie, loving mother Natalie, sister Debbie, his maternal grandparents, Rose and Dominic Perrone, and his paternal grandparents James and Stella Kavakis. Family and friends were everything to Jimmy. He was profoundly heartbroken about the recent passing of his beloved mother. She was not only his loving mother but his best friend. They had a wonderful relationship until her unfortunate passing.

Jimmy is survived by his cousins, Annie Masotti and Deidre Salvaggio, cousins Michael Perrone, Cathy Perrone, and Peter Pendias, and his beautiful Goddaughter Harper Hovelmann. He leaves behind many loving and devoted lifetime friends as well as his cat Celeste.

Jimmy was a lifelong parishioner of St. Anthony’s Church in Nanuet. He attended St. Anthony’s School, graduated from Nanuet High School in 1978, and St. Thomas Aquinas College in 1983. He was an outstanding athlete, avid skier, and world traveler.  Jimmy was a true entrepreneur in every sense of the word.  A pillar of his community, he established many successful businesses in Rockland County. He was loving, kind, witty, compassionate, and a very generous man.  He truly touched all that he came to know; everyone who knew Jimmy remembers a story he told or a moment with him fondly.
