James J. Curtin Obituary

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of James J. Curtin, age 92, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and loyal friend to many.  He passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his wife Joan (nee Ahearn) and 4 children on Thursday, October 9, 2025. Jim was born and raised in the Bronx with his parents, James and Margaret (nee Kelly) Curtin. He grew up with his 2 siblings: Joan and Ruth, he was known as “Hollywood Jim” since they grew up on Hollywood Ave. in Throggs Neck, N.Y. He attended grammar school at St. Benedict’s in Throggs Neck and was a proud graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School. After graduation, he joined the Navy to serve his country during the Korean War as a radio man on the USS Burdo and USS Mellette.    He married the love of his life, Joan, in 1957 and went on to raise 4 children Jimmy, Marianne (Brothers) Jeanine (Mulcahy), and Beth (Donnellan).

They started their family in Parkchester, N.Y. and then settled in Pearl River, NY.   He worked as a supervisor at AT&T for over 32 years and then retired but he started his second career as the Nyack Building Inspector which he did for a few years.  You could find him every Sunday for his 6:30 am tee time with his friends to play golf at Blue Hill Golf Course and then home to make breakfast for his family after he played 18 holes.  And when he wasn’t there, he enjoyed skiing with friends in VT or at the beach in Ocean City, MD for some sun and fun.  He was one of the founding and active member of St. Aedan’s in Pearl River, NY and lived his faith by always being the first one to offer a hand to anyone in need.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife Joan of 68 yrs. of marriage and his 4 children son James (Vanna), Marianne (James), Jeanine (Tim) and Beth (Adam); 7 grandchildren Keri (Michael), Jimmy (Hillary), Katie (Larry), Brendan, Cole, Aidan and Anna as well as great-grandchildren Madison, Vincent and Kevin.   As well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.  He is predeceased by his parents James and Margaret Curtin, siblings Ruth and Eddie (Arreche), Joan and Eddie (Cook), his wife’s parents John and Elizabeth Ahearn,  son-in-law James Brothers and daughter-in-law Kathy (Kelly) Curtin.
