In Loving Memory of James Patrick Coen
January 28, 1928 - October 7, 2025
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of James Patrick Coen, a devoted family man, loyal friend, and unforgettable soul who left this world peacefully at the age of 97.
Born in 1928, James lived a life filled with purpose, dedication and joy. A hardworking and determined man, he built not only a successful career but a legacy of integrity, generosity and love. He was the rock of his family -- always present, always dependable, and always putting others before himself.
James had a zest for life that was contagious. He found joy in the simple pleasures -- sunny days at the beach, family vacations filled with laughter, and a good hand of poker at the casino. He had a twinkle in his eye and a playful spirit that made everyone feel at ease in his presence. Whether he was sharing stories from his travels around the world or cracking jokes at the dinner table, he brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.
Generous to a fault, he was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. His loyalty to friends and loved ones never wavered, and those lucky enough to know him were better for it. He taught us the value of hard work, the importance of staying true to your word and the beauty of living life with heart.
Above all else, James cherished his family. His love was steady and unwavering, and he leaves behind a legacy of strength, unity and love that will carry on for generations.
Surviving James are his children: Margaret O'Connor and husband John, James Coen and wife Kim, Eileen McGowan and husband Patrick, Ellen Huber and husband Christopher, and his grandchildren: Margaret Hanson and husband Timothy, Katherine O'Connor and husband Michael Ma, Brian McGowan and wife Erin, Jillian Marano and husband Billy, Christopher Huber and wife Wendy Clarke, Kahlie Coen and Andy Nuttall, Ashley Kolesk and husband Tom, James Huber and Adriana Mendez, and his great grandchildren: Sean Ma, Elizabeth Ma, James Hanson, Jack Ma, Keira McGowan, Molly Hanson, Bryn McGowan, Shea McGowan, Conor McGowan, Liam Marano, Grady Marano, James Kolesk, Myles Huber, Reilly Marano, Brian Kolesk. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Mary McManus and his brother-in-law Thomas Mahoney. The family as well as others who knew him well will miss his stories, his laughter and his presence.
James is predeceased by his wife of 76 years, Margaret Mary Coen, his parents, Myles and Mary Coen, by his wife's parents, Thomas and Elizabeth Mahoney, and his sisters, Nancy Adams and Mollie Donato, and his sisters-in-law, Helen McCarthy and Florence O'Neill, and his grandson Sean.
Though he may be gone, his spirit lives on -- in every sunset on the beach, every game night filled with laughter, and every journey taken with curiosity and joy.
Rest in peace, James Patrick Coen. You lived fully, loved deeply, and left this world better than when you entered it.
