J. Donald Albright, PhD of Palisades, NY, formerly of Nanuet, NY, passed away on Tuesday, July 20, 2021 at the Jewish Home in Rockleigh, NJ. He was 88.
Mr. Albright worked as a research chemist for Lederle Labs in Pearl River, NY for 42 years before retiring in 2000.
Donald was born April 28, 1933 in Talmage, PA to Martin and Ida (Wolgemuth) Albright.
He was educated in Leola, PA and graduated from Upper Leacock High School in 1951. He earned a Bachelors degree in Science at Elizabethtown College in Elizabethtown, PA in 1955. He also received from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign a PHD in Organic Chemistry.
On September 11, 1954 he married Thelma Reagan at the Conestoga Church of the Brethren in Leola, PA.
Locally, he was a member of the Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church and the American Chemical Society.
Mr. Albright will be remembered for holding more than 100 patents and being the inventor of the prescription sleep medicine “Sonata”.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Thelma; sons, Douglas of Port St. Lucie, FL and Andrew (Amy) of Stamford, CT; brothers, Robert (Wanda) of Churchville, PA and Fred (Blake) of Lancaster, PA; sister, June (Donald) Albright of Lancaster, PA; grandchildren, Ross (Kate) Tenley, Lily and Mabel; great grandchild, Wyatt and many loved nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his son Brian (2013).
A Memorial service will be held on Saturday September 18, at 11:00 AM at the Nauraushaun Presbyterian Church 51 Sickletown Rd, Pearl River, NY. A celebration of life will follow the service at the church.
