Hervey W. Berthiaume passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 24, 2020, at the age of 87. He was a resident of East Hartford for almost 43 years. He retired from Pratt & Whitney as a plater after 32 years in 1997. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Hervey had many interests. He loved chess and bingo. He was a self-taught mechanic. He was a huge football fan whose favorite team was the New York Giants. He was an avid movie buff, seeing thousands of films in his lifetime. He loved long road trips, especially to amusement parks. His most famous trip was his solo drive to Mount Rushmore in South Dakota at the age of 81. During the latter part of his life, he spent several years writing a book called “Follow the Atom,” about his views on the universe and the nature of matter. He was predeceased by his eldest son, William Berthiaume. He will be dearly missed by his children Pamela and Robert Berthiaume and Priscilla Drobes. He will also be missed by his son-in-law Barry Drobes and his two granddaughters Amanda and Madeline Drobes, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind his sister Barbara Brosnihan, his nephew Bernard Ethier and his wife Debra, his niece Susan Ethier and her husband Jay Case, his other niece Jean Ethier, his grandnephew Eric Brown and his wife Meredith, and his great-grandnephews, Jack and Colin Brown.
