George Slavis of Chestnut Ridge, NY, died of natural causes on February 26th 2022. He passed peacefully at home with family by his side. He was seventy-four years old.
Mr. Slavis was the founder and owner of Eastern State Tire in West Nyack, NY. He started the company in 1978 and ran it with his wife Ellen, son George III, and numerous family members throughout the years.
George and his twin brother Bill were born on June 16th 1947 in Yonkers, NY to George and Irene Slavis.
The family moved to Pearl River, NY in 1954. George is a proud alumnus of Pearl River High School, class of ’65.
Ellen and George were married on November 24th 1968. They have been married for 53 years and have two children, George III and Joseph. George III and his wife, Marcy live in West Nyack, NY with their daughter,Charlotte. Joseph and his wife, Diana live in Marietta, GA with their children,Ella, JC and Christian. He is also survived by his sisters, Beth and Victoria and brother, Richard. He is predeceased by his brothers, Bill and Bobby and his parents.
George was a musician who played publicly since his high school years. He and his brother Bill recorded with Columbia Records in the 1960’s. His bands the Fabulous Viscounts, the Slavis Brothers and Slavis have played many weddings, conventions and firehouse functions in and around Rockland County.
He will be remembered for his love of family and the game of golf as well as his gift of song.
Calling hours are Thursday from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated ll:00AM Saturday at St. Margaret of Antioch Church in Pearl River. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.
