PEARL RIVER- On December 17, 2020 Eugene Michael Flood passed away peacefully with his family at his side in his Pearl River home where he lived for 44 years and raised his family.
Eugene was the quintessential family man whose genuine generosity and sparkling wit will always be cherished. He was married to his childhood sweetheart Elizabeth Flood for 59 years.
Eugene was the son of Eugene and Josephine Flood. He was born in Greenpoint Brooklyn.He served on the New York City Police Department from 1962-1982. He was inspired to serve New York’s finest when at age 16 he rescued a motorist from a burning vehicle. He started at the 110th precinct. Within 2 years he transferred to Emergency Service Unit truck one where spent the rest of his distinguished career and retired as detective. He was a highly decorated officer. He won the Rifle Expert Award. Eugene treasured a deep appreciation with the unique camaraderie he had with his fellow officers. He received many commendations for heroism. Not one to sit still, Eugene started a second career opening New England Remodeling which was a successful business for 30 years. His fine handiwork and specialties, Kitchens and windows were his specialty his fine work can be found in homes in all over the Hudson Valley.
During summers, Eugene could often be found in his sacred sanctuary on Rockaway Beach. He took great pride in entertaining family and his many friends at his self renovated ocean view bungalow. He was a proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, The Knights of Columbus, the American Legion, Pearl River Elks and the NYPD Emerald Society. He was always the first to raise his hand to volunteer for charity events. He took great pride in helping to organize countless social and charitable events throughout his community and in his beloved Rockaway.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife Betty. Eugene is also survived by his devoted daughters, Cathy Richards (George), Kelly Kohlbrenner ( Andy) and Christine Mascola ( Ted), 2 brothers Jay (Maria), Gerard (late wife Louise), and sisters Debbie Kincaid ( Jeff), and Colleen. He is predeceased by his brother Patrick (Barbara ) . He is survived by 14 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. His grandchildren include Jessica Perez ( Alex), George Richards ( Laura), Meghan Richards, Melissa Richards, Rebecca Richards, Timothy Richards, Caile’ Martinez ( David), Conor, Cara, & Christy Kohlbrenner, Teddy & Eugene Mascola. Great grandchildren Makayla & Thomas Mackey, Alexalyn Sophia & Katherine Perez, Hailey Richards, and Jonathan Richards. He was predeceased by Katie Richards and Michael Trapani. Additionally, Eugene is survived by numerous nephews and nieces and cousins.
Visitation will be held at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River, N.Y. Sunday, December 20, 2020 between 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm. A Funeral service will be held Monday, December 21, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret Church in Pearl River, N.Y. followed by a Christian burial at St Anthony Cemetery in Nanuet, N.Y.
