Elizabeth Flood Obituary

Elizabeth C. Flood April 8, 1941 - May 18, 2022 PEARL RIVER- On May 18, 2022 Elizabeth (Betty) Catherine Flood passed away peacefully with her three daughters at her side in her Pearl River home where she lived for 46 years and raised her family. Betty was born in New York City to Cornelius and Catherine Regan. She lived in Woodside, Queens New York and attended St Theresa’s grammar school and St Agnes Catholic High School where she excelled academi-cally. Betty became the head cheerleader at St Agnes. After high school Betty attended the New York Foundling Academy where she was recog-nized for her skill with orphan care. Betty cherished her days at the Acad-emy. Betty met Eugene, the love of her life, in her early teens. Eugene at age 14 had a job delivering dry cleaning to Betty’s residence in Woodside. Need-less to say, young Gene, smitten by Betty’s charm and beauty made many deliveries to that house. They were married in November of 1961. Betty and Gene had three daughters in Middle Village, New York. In 1976, the happy couple moved to Pearl River, New York to raise their girls. Bet-ty’s defining mantra to the end was “family first”. Anybody that knew her would revel in Betty’s extraordinary selfless nature. Betty’s true pleasure was family and knowing how all her immediate and extended family were doing. She was forever asking how others were doing, and ensuring all took good care of each other. Betty was the portrait of an elegant graceful lady but if there was a family crisis, Betty was the first one to drop every-thing and and run to help. Betty’s trademark of altruism lives on to this day. Betty was ahead of her time, working in the early days of computers in various firms in corporate NYC. Among others, She worked for IBM, Sub-aru and Mercedes as an administrative professional. Betty was especially proud of winning an office proficiency award. During summers, Betty treasured her days at Rockaway Beach, New York entertaining her children, siblings, cousins, nephews, nieces, and grand-children. Irish music, Irish fare and joy abounded. Betty was quick to laugh and could often be seen enjoying an occasional Brandy Alexander. She loved spending endless summers at her oceanside sanctuary often staying on until the chill of October. In addition to Rockaway, Betty enjoyed memo-rable vacations in Florida, Hawaii, Myrtle Beach, The Poconos. and The Bahamas. Known for her courteous nature, razor wit and grounded wisdom Betty was a person who left her mark on those lucky to have known her. Betty is predeceased by her loving husband Eugene . Betty is also sur-vived her devoted daughters, Cathy Richards (George), Kelly Kohlbrenner ( Andy) and Christine Mascola ( Ted). She is predeceased by her sisters De-lores and Kathleen and brother Ronald. She is survived by 14 grandchil-dren and 8 great grandchildren. Her grandchildren include Jessica Perez ( Alex), George Richards ( Laura), Meghan Richards, Melissa Richards, Re-becca Richards, Timothy Richards, Caile’ Martinez ( David), Conor, Cara, & Christy Kohlbrenner, Teddy & Eugene Mascola. Great grandchildren in-clude Makayla & Thomas Mackey, Alexalyn Sophia & Katherine Perez, Hai-ley Richards, and Jonathan Richards. She was predeceased by great chil-dren Katie Richards and MIchael Trapani. Additionally, Betty is survived by numerous close in laws, nephews and nieces and cousins.
