Eileen M. Burke (née Moore), age 92, passed away peacefully on May 2, 2026. Eileen was born to John and Mary (née Egan) on November 14, 1933. She was the devoted wife of Redmond P. Burke (Captain, ret. NYPD), who predeceased her in 2010 after 52 years of marriage. Eileen was the loving mother of Redmond Jr. (Eileen, d. 2026) and Jimmy (Patsy).
She was blessed to be the grandmother of Timothy (Melissa), Heather (Lucas), Redmond III (Kaitlin), Meaghan (Andrew), Liam, and Sean. Eileen was doubly blessed with 10 great-grandchildren: Finn, Eloise, Riley, Brendan, Maeve, Ronan, Declan, Kiera, Molly, and Deirdre. Eileen was warmly welcomed as a honorary member of the Fitzgerald clan and attended many weddings and parties with them during the last 40+ years. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews.
Eileen was an original student at St. Gabriel’s in Riverdale, NY, when the school opened in 1941, and remained a faithful parishioner there until her death. She grew up next to Ewen Park with her parents and her two brothers, James and John, all of whom predeceased her. She and Redmond were married at St. Gabriel’s on May 10, 1958. She was a communicant at "St. Gabe’s" and a pillar of the Riverdale community for over nine decades.
Eileen graduated from the Academy of Mt. St. Ursula in the Bedford Park section of the Bronx. Later in life, she attended college at night, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Lehman College and a double Master’s Degree in Education and Counseling from Manhattan College. For many years, she served as the Vice Principal of Guidance at Christopher Columbus High School in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx, retiring in 2006.
We would like to thank Eileen’s caregivers—Lily, Jasmine, Joanne, Josianne, and Carla—for keeping her comfortable and active during the last two and a half years. Their warmth and love for her will never be forgotten.
Visitation will be held at the Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY 10965, on May 6, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Gabriel’s Church, 3250 Arlington Avenue, Bronx, NY 10463, on May 7, 2026 at 10 AM. The school’s theme song—a bond memorized and cherished for life by all who attended:
“Hail to our patron, Holy Archangel from on high, said to a maiden lowly, bright as the morning sky. God’s Holy will for Mary, he came on earth to tell; his will was done, God is Mary’s son, all hail to St. Gabriel.”
