Dorothy Elaine DeBraal Urquhart, 96, of Pearl River, New York died peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, August 4, 2021. She was the eldest of five children born to John and Myrtle Thompson DeBraal of Cicero, Illinois.
Dorothy graduated from J. Sterling Morton High School and Carthage College, and received a M.S. in Library Science from the University of Illinois, where she met and later married, in 1951, the late (2003) Norman R. Urquhart of Lincoln, Illinois. They moved to Pearl River, NY in 1954. She was a homemaker, a teacher’s assistant in the Pearl River elementary schools, a leader for the Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, and an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Pearl River. She especially enjoyed family holidays, birthday gatherings, and hosting numerous family vacation trips.
She is survived by her seven children; Rhea (John) Fletcher of Salem, SC; Amy Urquhart of Pearl River, NY; Norman (Katrina) of Sunrise, FL; Heidi Besold (Bill) of Monroe, NY; Angus (Susan) of Stony Point, NY; Julie Urquhart of Pearl River, NY; and Vera (Eric) Schofer of Fort Montgomery, NY; eleven grand children, nine great grandchildren, and one on the way. Dorothy is survived by one brother, Donald DeBraal of LaGrange Park, IL and one sister, Jacqueline McGraw of Peoria, IL. She is predeceased by a brother, Dale (1968) and a sister, Dawn Rodgers (2019).
The family will receive friends and relatives at the Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River, NY on Sunday, August 8, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
