Dorothy McKiernan of Stony Point, NY, formerly of Pearl River, NY passed away peacefully Sunday, February 11, 2024 at home surrounded by family. She was 97 years old.
Mrs. McKiernan worked as a church secretary for St. Margaret Church in Pearl River, NY. She was with St. Margaret Church for more than twenty years.
Mrs. Mckiernan was born May 15,1926 in Englewood, NJ to Robert Byron and Anna Cecilia Clancy Mussman. She was educated in the Bronx and Manhattan, NY and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1943.
Dorothy and Philip starting as childhood friends grew in love and devotion, married on November 13, 1948 at Saints Peter and Paul Church Bronx, NY.
Dorothy lived in Stony Point, NY for the past 17 years. Before that, she lived in Pearl River, NY from 1955 to 2003 and in Suffern, NY from 2003 to 2007.
Locally, she was a longtime teacher in the CCD Education Program, member of the Parish Council, and devoted member of the Rosary Altar Society at St. Margaret Church.
Mrs. McKiernan will be remembered for her devotion to motherhood, kindness towards neighbors and friends, and her commitment to servicing any organization in need.
She is survived by her daughters, Anne Bass of Stony Point, NY, Mary LaSpina (Anthony) of Chester, NY and Patsy Autorino (Robert) of North Caldwell, NJ. Survived by sons Philip Brendan (Holiday) of Indianapolis, IN, Robert (Geralynne) of Hastings-on-Hudson, NY, and Christopher (Peggy) Clayton, NC.
Dorothy is survived by 22 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Philip (1993), sons, twins Philip and Joseph (1951), Hugh (1997), Kevin (2006) and son-in-law Christopher Bass (1999).
She was also predeceased by grandsons Jeffrey Bass (2016) and Justin Bass (2023).
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 16, 2024 from 4PM-8PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Ave., Pearl River, NY.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10AM Saturday, February 17, 2024, at St. Margaret R.C. Church, 115 W. Central Ave., Pearl River, NY.
