Dorothy Honan

Dorothy Honan (nee Desch), a longtime resident of Rockland County, NY passed away peacefully at home with her loving family by her side on February 2, 2021.

Dorothy was born in August, 1932 in the Bronx, NY to Johann & Wilhelmina Desch.

She was the eldest of three children, her loving brothers Erich and Paul having predeceased her.

Dorothy graduated from St Barnabas High School in the Bronx where she maintained life-long friendships. Dorothy married Vincent Honan on May 17, 1958 at St Philip Neri Church on the Grand Concourse, Bronx, NY. They were happily married for 42 years until Vincent’s passing in February, 2000. They were blessed with five children. Their home was always filled with love and laughter. Dorothy’s motto for a happy marriage and life was to always maintain a sense of humor, which she certainly did. She was a long-time parishioner of St Anthony’s, Nanuet, NY and more recently of St Aedan’s, Pearl River, NY.

Dorothy retired from Montebello Elementary School in Suffern, NY after 20 years as a secretary to the principal. She loved all the people she came in contact with during her years there. Many will fondly remember her annual and very creative Halloween costumes. After retirement Dorothy continued to devote herself to her family. She was an amazing caregiver to both her husband and then later on to her wonderful daughter Ellen Honan-Baust. Her devotion, strength and resilience was unsurpassed.

Dorothy is survived by her children:  Catherine Tuohy (Dennis – predeceased) of Atlantic City, NJ; Vincent (Lorna) Honan of Phoenix, Az; Stephen (Christina) of Blauvelt, NY; Christina Honan of Pearl River, NY.

Dorothy was a loving “Oma” to her ten grandchildren and one great grandchild: Kate (Kevin Bennett), Bridget, Tim, Natalie, Tess, Dennis Jr, Madeline, Claire, Christian, Stephen, and Eleanor.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:00 AM Saturday at St. Catharine R.C. Church, Blauvelt, NY.  Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Nanuet, NY.

In lieu of flowers, Dorothy would have wanted you to remember her fondly and raise a toast to her memory with your loved ones…..Prost!
