Dorothea Accetta

Dorothea Accetta (nee Moran), of Pearl River, New York, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2024, at the age of 93.

Dorothea (Dot, Dottie) was born in 1931 to James and Helen Moran. She grew up in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan and married Joe in 1956. They moved to Pearl River, NY in 1959. 

Dot was a perennially curious woman who loved asking questions, attending lectures, and reading books and articles. She was heavily involved in her community, serving on the Pearl River School Board’s Budget Advisory Committee, St. Margaret’s Parish Council, PTA, and Residents Board at Brightview Senior Living. She was a patriot who enjoyed politics and watching Fox News. Dot was generous to her children and grandchildren, helping to put them through college and instilling the importance of financial security. She loved traveling, especially yearly trips to the Jersey Shore with her family. 

Dot is predeceased by her husband Joseph (Joe) and sister Margaret (Peg). She is survived by her five children, Dr. Peter (Lynn) Accetta, Marie (Richard) Raquet, Teresa (Richard) Pugh, Rita Accetta, and Martin (Elena) Accetta; eight grandchildren, Melinda, Emily, Julia, Jillian, Alexander, Luke, James, and Isabelle; and great-grandson, Maverik. 

A wake will be held on Friday, November 8 from 4-7 pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home in Pearl River, NY. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Margaret’s Church in Pearl River on Saturday, November 9, at 10 am. Interment will follow at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Spring Valley, NY.
