Charles DeJoie Jr Obituary

Charles DeJoie Jr., of Suffern, NY, passed away on May 16, 2025, at the age of 87. Born in Suffern on August 15, 1937, to Grace and Charles DeJoie, he was a lifelong resident of Rockland County and a proud member of the community.

Charles attended Suffern elementary and high schools before earning a mechanical engineering degree from Fairleigh Dickinson College. He went on to work in guidance systems for Bendix, Honeywell, and Allied Signal until his retirement in December 1999. His professional dedication and technical skill left a lasting impact in his field.

From 1960 to 1962, Charles served in the U.S. Army. He was an active and devoted member of the Suffern American Legion #859, where he held the position of Post Commander from 1994 to 1996. He also served in the Mahwah Elks Lodge 1941, where he was Exalted Ruler from 2002 to 2003. Charles contributed to many local organizations, including the Odd Fellows Fraternal Organization and the 40-8 adjunct to the American Legion, offering his leadership and service across decades.

On August 4, 1977, Charles married Constance Taylor, with whom he shared a loving and devoted marriage until her passing in 2021. Charles was a dedicated husband who was fond of family and travel throughout their life, while becoming deeply rooted in the Rockland County community he loved and served so fully.

He was a proud stepfather to Carol Watson, Donna DeGeorge, Lynn Savage, and Susan DeGeorge. He was predeceased by his stepson Bruce DeGeorge and stepdaughter Kim Simpson. Charles was a beloved grandfather to 18 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Charles will be remembered for his unwavering service to others, his kind and generous spirit, and his steadfast commitment to family, country, and community.

Calling hours will be held on Tuesday, May 20, from 4:00 PM to 7:30 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, NY 10965. The funeral will take place on Wednesday, May 21, at 10:00 AM, beginning at Wyman-Fisher, with interment to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to veterans’ organizations, in honor of Charles’s lifelong dedication to service.
