Celia Joyce Mullarkey

Celia Joyce Mullarkey, “Ciss” to family and friends in the Irish community, passed away on Tuesday morning November 5, 2019 in her sleep with her family by her side when God came calling her to join Tony in heaven the age of 77.

Born on June 2, 1942 in Turloughmore, Galway, Ireland to Thomas and Julia Joyce, at an early age, Celia’s love of God and thirst for knowledge allowed her to study theology abroad in Paris, France with the Sisters of Marymount, returning home to Ireland for a period before debarking with her sister to America arriving in Queens, NY where she worked for the Chase Manhattan Bank and the NY Telephone company.

Fortunately, one winter night in the Bronx at an Irish dance, she smiled at the love of her life, Anthony “Tony” Mullarkey, and after a few turns on the dance floor, she returned to Galway to marry and to have 6 wonderful children.

Ciss worked at Elmwood Manor in New City, NY as a nurse’s aide for many years caring for the elderly, their families and community. Celia serenely carried out the Lord’s message of kindness and hope throughout her life taking special interest in providing support, shelter, and an understanding presence to those in need.

Celia was proceeded in death of her husband Anthony (Tony) Mullarkey and her son James. Celia is survived by John “Jack” Fitzpatrick; her children Thomas and Lynn, Michael and Maureen, Richard, Deborah and Danny, Sharon and Gabe. Celia was a loving Grandmother to Stephanie, Michael, Alexander, Ashley, Audrey, Michael Aidan, Maxwell, Kara, Julianna, Jacob, Nicklaus, Madeleine, Elizabeth, Joseph, Sophia, Gabrielle and Theodore.  Celia was loved by her brother and sisters, Oliver, Vincent, Tim, Tommy, John, Gerry, Peggy, Siobbean and sister in law Peggy. Ciss left a memory with all the friends and family she met; her wit and entertaining personality is a trait we will all miss in our days.

Visiting Hours are Friday November 8, 2019 from 5pm to 8pm at Wyman Fisher Funeral Home. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held on November 9th at St Aeden’s Church, in Pearl River Saturday Morning at 10am. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery Nanuet, NY.
