Beverly Stoughton Obituary

Former Pearl River resident and church organist Beverly W. Stoughton, 87, passed away on July 13, 2025 in Tennessee where she had resided in Cordova with her daughter Sharon and son-in-law John Rosner for the past 7 years. Born in Pearl River on October 6, 1937, Beverly attended Pearl River Schools graduating in 1955. She attended Westminster Choir College in Princeton, NJ for two years prior to her marriage to Robert Miller in 1957.  She accompanied him to Okinawa for two years with the Air Force. 

Beverly first started playing the organ during high school.  She was the organist at the Pearl River United Methodist Church for 17 years until 1982 and continued at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in town for 32 years until 2014.  She gave piano and organ lessons as well as an organ recital at St. Bartholomew’s Church in NYC.  Beverly lived in rural Jefferson, NY and in Lake Worth, FL after her marriage to Robert Stoughton in 1995. She played the organ during the summer in the Lutheran Church in Cordova, TN. 

Beverly was the daughter of Elizabeth and Stanley Winter of Pearl River. She is survived by daughter Sharon and son-in-law John Rosner, grandson Steven Rosner, granddaughter Diana Brown and husband Jason, and great grandson Alden.  She is also survived by her sister Marilyn, brother-in-law Bob Garten, and nephews Scott and Tom Garten of CA and Dan Garten of TX.  She was preceded in death by Bob Miller, son David Miller and by Robert Stoughton.

A funeral service for Beverly will be held on Saturday, August 30 at 10:30 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Pearl River.  Interment will take place in the Pearl River Cemetery following the service.
