Barry Phillips, longtime resident of Pearl River, passed away peacefully on June 21st, 2023, in his home. He was 73 years old. Barry worked as a glass manufacturing supervisor for Glenshaw Glass Company in Blauvelt before embarking on a career in computer technology. He established himself as a software engineer at UPS for over 10 years, before retiring in 2006.
Barry was born on March 9th, 1950, in Long Branch, NJ to Joseph and Kathryn Phillips. Barry lived in the home that he and his wife April built for 41 years and before that, he and April lived in Pomona, NY from 1978 to 1982. His 3 siblings, who predeceased him, include his brothers Bob and Jay and his sister Dot. He is survived by his wife April, his son Jeff Strickland and wife Maria, his son Craig Phillips and wife Shaina, and his son Doug Phillips and wife Kaylan. He is loved by his five grandchildren, Addie, Alex, Isla, Naomi and Dylan.
Barry will be remembered for being honest and authentic. He shared exactly what he thought with the ones he loved, and most importantly, the people in his life knew how much he cared for them. His friends and family have many fond memories of losing to Barry in darts, billiards, horseshoes, and bowling. He had a passion for building, and then re-building computers. He was always thirsty to learn. He had such an eclectic and broad love of music throughout his life.
Some of April and Barry’s best memories were their trips to Hawaii and Aruba. They enjoyed road trips together, seeing the country, spending time at the beach and watching sunrises and sunsets. He loved his trips to California, and in retirement, he loved escaping to Florida for the winter. He had a dry sense of humor, and his timing always made those around him laugh. Underneath his occasionally tough exterior, was a soft, gentle, devoted, and loving husband and father. He cherished his grandchildren more than anything in this world and will always be remembered by them as grandpa.
The visitation will be held at Wyman-Fisher on Sunday, June 25th, 2023, from 2pm to 6pm.
The prayer service will be held at Wyman-Fisher at 10am on Monday, June 26th, 2023.
