Agnes Sullivan

It is with immense sorrow that we announce the passing of AGNES SULLIVAN, age 92, of Pearl River, NY.  She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her daughters on Sunday, November 2, 2025.

Agnes was born in Magherafelt, Draperstown, County Derry, Northern Ireland to John and Teresa (Donnelly) Murray.  She was awarded a scholarship as a teen to attend school in London, England,  where she completed her studies as a nurse and worked at St. Ann’s Hospital in London.  Her sense of adventure eventually took her to New York City where she worked at Equitable Life Insurance.  At a dance in New York City, she met the love of her life, Denis.  Upon their meeting, he announced to his brother that “she was the girl he was going to marry” and pursued her until she agreed to go out with him.  They married in 1959 and went on to have 5 daughters.  They started their family in the Bronx and then settled in Pearl River, N.Y.  She devoted her life to her family.  Together with Denis, they provided their daughters with the opportunities to pursue their dreams. 

Agnes enjoyed watching the NY Yankees and PGA golf, as well as reading and working in the yard.  Her faith was very important to her.  She was a force to be reckoned with and stood up for what she believed in.  She will be remembered for her intelligence, independence, fierce determination and sense of humor. 

She is pre-deceased by her husband, Denis, and daughters, Mary Sullivan and Irene Morrison.

She is survived by her three daughters Teresa (Michael) McPhillips, Elizabeth (John) Waite and Denise Sullivan (Joe Zwyhun); grandchildren Michelle McPhillips, Denis (Ellen Hirsch) McPhillips, John Waite and Victoria Waite.

The family also wishes to acknowledge dear friends Stacey Clapp, Pauline Weir and Margaret Brennan for their care of Mom over the last few years.

Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, 100 Franklin Avenue, Pearl River, New York.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret of Antioch Church, 115 W. Central Avenue, Pearl River, NY.  Interment will follow at Frederick W. Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 220 Brick Church Rd., New Hempstead, NY.
