Sarah Sorriento (nee Scarpulla) of Pearl River, NY passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Sunday, September 15, 2019. She was 97.
Mrs. Sorriento worked for Lederle Labs and was a retiree of Orange and Rockland Utilities.
Sarah was born November 25, 1921 to Andrew and Leanora (Pergola) Scarpulla.
She was a graduate of Pearl River HS Class of 1939 .
Locally, she was a life long communicant of St. Margaret Church, a member of the Catholic Daughters and a member of the Pearl River Senior Club.
She will be remembered for being an avid Yankee fan and enjoyed knitting for her family. Sarah had a close family who enjoyed cooking and spending loving time together. Her family was the original owners of GEM Bottling Works and Soda Shop on Main Street in Pearl River during the 1930's and 1940's.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Ellen Lambert and husband, Douglas; stepson, Lawrence Sorriento and wife, Maureen; stepdaughter, Donna Walker and husband, Stewart; sister, Teresa Hanley; grandchildren, Stephanie DeRosa (Michael), Suzanne Ruckel (Raymond), Carolyn Lambert (fiancé George), Kenneth Lambert (Erin), Sarah Brzozowski (Joe) Leanore Smith and Christopher Kavalla (Hayley) and thirteen great grandchildren, Michael, Megan, Stephen, Jennifer, Raymond, Brooke, RJ, Christian, Tristan, Jorga, Tyler, Addy and Emily; step-grandsons, Geoff Duncan (Ross-Taylor) and Adam Duncan (Tammy). She is predeceased by her first husband of 26 years, Stephen Kavalla and her second husband, of 28 years, Salvatore Sorriento; her son, Steven Kavalla and brothers and sisters, Samuel,, Thomas, Mary, Josephine, Rosie and Concetta.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11:30 AM Wednesday at St. Margaret R. C. Church, Pearl River. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. Visiting is Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.
