John Patrick Donegan

John Patrick Donegan (85) a long time resident of Pearl River, NY passed away Monday April 15th surrounded by his family.  John was born March 20, 1934 in New York City to the late Dermott and Mary (Dolan) Donegan. After graduating from college, he entered the U.S. Army and served with the 8th U.S Army attached to the 24th Division in Korea from March 1957 to August 1958.  

John worked for over 30 years as a Vice President for an International Public Adjusting Firm and then enjoyed a second career with Sony Electronics.  John was an active member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, holding many offices in the Division, County and State including, Secretary, Treasurer, Chairman and President.  He was selected as an Aide to the Marshal of the NYC St. Patrick’s Day Parade in 1977. John took an active role in promoting Irish culture and was named Hibernian of the Year in 1990.

John was an avid golfer but his greatest love and passion was his family.  He was a constant source of guidance and support and his storytelling will live forever in our hearts. John will be remembered for his smile, gentle sense of humor and those sparkling Irish blue eyes. Those who knew John will cherish his generosity, supreme love of family, and pride in his Irish-American heritage.

John is predeceased by his siblings Mary, Doreen, Desmond and his beloved son, John.  John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kathleen, his daughters and sons-in law, Maura and Rodney Ray and Eileen and Chris Cording as well as the pride and joys of his life, his precious grandchildren, Erika, Katherine, Jack, Erin & Bridget.  

A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Tuesday, April 23rd, 10:00 AM at St. Margaret of Antioch R.C. Church, 115 West Central Ave., Pearl River.  Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Nanuet, NY. Visiting will be held Monday, April 22nd, from 5 to 8PM at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc.
