Donald Rassaert a lifelong resident of Pearl River, NY passed away December 10, 2019. He was 64.
Don was a Certified Public Accountant in New York State, possessed a Certificate in Management Accounting and was a member of the American Institute of CPA’s, NY State Society OF CPA’s, Institute of Management Accountants and the Financial Executive Institute.
Donald was born July 11, 1954 in Suffern, NY to Edward and Helen Rassaert. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from St. Thomas Aquinas College with a Bachelor of Science degree with an accounting concentration, he began his career in the Stamford Connecticut office of Price Waterhouse (now Price Waterhouse Coopers) where he attained the rank of Senior Accountant and served audit clients in the fields of manufacturing, banking, leasing and real estate tax shelters.
Subsequent to obtaining his Master’s Degree in Corporate Financial Management from Pace University, Don joined Becton, Dickinson & Co. and attained the title of Audit Supervisor, for this manufacturer and distributor of medical supplies and diagnostic equipment. He supervised financial and operational assignments throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, Venezuela and several European countries.
Don then moved into the financial services arena, handling positions of progressive responsibility in Citicorp (now Citigroup), Met life and Prudential Financial. He served as Division Controller of Met Life’s corporate Health Strategies subsidiary and also as Controllers for Met’s Group Department Eastern Zone operation, which generated over $3 billion in premiums and equivalents.
At Prudential Financial, Don served in the Corporate Controller’s Accounting Policy area. This area is responsible for addressing technical accounting issues that call for accounting policy determination which may arise from emerging professional standards (GAAP and Statutory), regulatory (SEC) and tax developments, product changes/enhancements and significant transactions.
Donald’s funeral arrangements were private.
