Donald Flotard Obituary

Donald Flotard of Pearl River, NY, passed at the age of 85 on December 8, 2018.

Mr. Flotard was born in Cresskill, NJ to Louis and Mae (Schweikart) Flotard.

He was a retired pipe fitter for the United Water Company. Prior to his employment with the water company, Donald served proudly in the United States Navy onboard the USS Whitley and the USS Neptune.  He received the Good Conduct Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal (Europe) and the National Defense Service Medal.

Upon his return home, he proudly served as a volunteer firefighter with the Orangeburg Fire District from 1958 to 1962.  He held the positions of 2nd Asst. Engineer, Engineer and Captain. Upon relocating, he was granted Associate member status.  In 1963 he joined the Old Tappan Fire Co. #1.  There he held the position of Chief in 1968 and 1969.  He became an exempt member in 1971.

In addition to his service to Country and Community, Donald will be remembered for his love and dedication to his friends, neighbors and family. Especially his (late) sister Elizabeth, her children and grandchildren, whom he made sure were always cared for after Elizabeth’s husband passed in 1986.

Donald is survived by his niece, Melinda Eshbach; her children, Jonathan and Ryan; nephew, Peter Kopac, wife, Julie and Peter’s children, Justin Kopac and Rebecca Wheeler.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Elizabeth (Kopac) and Nancy (Margotta), brother, Ronald; brother in law, Peter Kopac and nephew, Donald Kopac.

Calling hours will be Friday, December 14th from 2pm-4pm and 7pm-9pm at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc. Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Saturday December 15th at 10am.  Interment will follow at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 220 Brick Church Road, New Hempstead.

Donations may be made in Donald’s name to the Old Tappan Fire Co. #1, Orangeburg Fire District or the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation.
