Curtisteen Walter, longtime resident of Pearl River, NY, died of natural causes on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Nyack Hospital. She was 90 years old. Mrs. Walter was a retired data processor for Africa Inland Mission. She was a long-standing member of Grace Baptist Church in Nanuet. Mrs. Walter was born Sept. 26, 1928, in Etowah, TN, to Bascom Burl Fowler and Ethyl Gertrude Fowler (nee Curtis). She was educated in Oakdale, TN, and graduated from high school in 1946. On May 27, 1950, she married Howard Walter in Lynbrook, NY. Mrs. Walter lived in Pearl River for the past 65 years. Locally, she was a devoted member of Grace Baptist Church, serving as a Sunday School Superintendent, a deaconess, and as a member of Women’s Fellowship. She also opened her home to visiting church speakers, musicians, and missionaries. Over the years, she hosted Bible study groups in her home.
She is survived by her sisters, Beatrice Trimble and Renee Laton, her brother Jay Fowler (Sarah), her children, Alan (Patricia), Barbara Taylor (Brian), Craig (Janice), David (Barbara), and Edward (Emily), grandchildren Jessica, Timothy, Stacy, Katherine, Daniel, Lindsay, Hal, Thomas, and Casey, and great-grandchildren Charlotte, Evan, Julia, Sophia, Lucy, Daniel, and Alec. She was beloved by all her nieces, nephews, and the spouses of her grandchildren. Family members who died earlier include her husband, Howard, her sisters, Juanita, Margaret, and Doris, and her brother Thomas. Calling hours are Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc., 100 Franklin Ave. Pearl River, from 3-5 PM and from 7-9 PM. Interment will be determined at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association.
