Bernard (Bernie) Mahon, a 30 year resident of Pearl River, NY passed away peacefully on Sunday June 9, 2019 at the age of 87.
Born in Leitrim, Ireland on May 5, 1932. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1959 and was stationed in Germany. Bernie was a First Vice President of Syndicate Accounting at Drexel Burnham Lambert and worked in Manhattan for 30 years. He later enjoyed retirement with his loving wife Hanna.
Bernie was the consummate Irishman. He played Irish music with his children from a young age and again later in life at local pubs in Rockland County as an accomplished fiddle player. He nurtured and instilled Irish culture with his family every day. Bernie loved to garden with his wife Hanna and displayed a true gift for growing flowers and plants. His greatest love was spending time with all of his family and took special pride in all of his grandchildren. He will be forever in our hearts and minds.
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Hanna; his children, Frank Mahon (Barbara) of Massachusetts; Maureen Ascolese (Anthony) of North Carolina; Loretta Gerace (Michael) of Pearl River; Eileen Freud (Richard) of Pearl River; his grandchildren, Matthew, Vincent, Brendan, Emily, Michael, Madison, Kaitlyn, Sophia and Anastasia and great grandchild Gianna.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am at St. Aedan’s R.C. Church Pearl River, NY on Wednesday, June 12, 2019. Burial will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery, Nanuet NY. Visiting hours will be 2-4 and 7-9 pm Tuesday, June 11, 2019 at Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home, Pearl River, NY.
